May the Lord, Mighty Lord, bless and keep you forever;

Grant us peace, perfect peace, faith in every endeavor;

Lift your eyes and see His face and His grace forever;

May the Lord, Gracious Lord, bless and keep you forever.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen

PSALM TWENTY-THREE

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;

He leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul;

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

For Thou art with me;

Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;

Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;

And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

CONFESSION OF FAITH The Nicene Creed Ecumenical Translation, Hymnal page 15

 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

 We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

 We believe in the Holy Sprit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, you have saved us for a purpose: You have overcome the darkness that we might embrace the light; you have defeated evil powers to make us glad and free. Yet we sin. We succumb to temptation and idolatry and miss opportunities you set before us. We neglect your presence, which is as near to us as our neighbor. Forgive our debts, O God, and teach us forgiveness. Teach us to love with determination and joy, that as children of light we may resemble you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP September 07, 2008 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

L: The night is far gone, the day is near.

R: LET US LAY ASIDE THE WORKS OF THE NIGHT.

L: Let us put on the garments of light.

R: LET US PUT ON THE GARMENTS OF JESUS CHRIST, THAT ALL MAY KNOW CHRIST'S GLORY AND PRAISE GOD.

CONFESSION OF FAITH The Apostles Creed, Ecumenical Translation, Hymnal page 14

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Have mercy on us, Lord: you have set your way before us, and we tremble to see it. It is not just suffering we are afraid to bear, but also the weight of your call: your call to excel in love, rejoice in hope, and live peaceably with all- your appeal to overcome evil with good. Who are we to live in such a way? We do not merit your confidence. Merciful God, forgive our fear and faithlessness. Help us to see what you see, to follow where you go, and to live in awe at your presence, which is our help and encouragement. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP August 31, 2008 22cd Sunday in Ordinary Time

R: LOVE ONE ANOTHER WITH MUTUAL AFFECTION; OUTDO ONE

All: For in this way God's glory will be made known and all people will praise God.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Forgive us, gracious God; we have allowed this world to shape us and enslave us. You call us to live as one body and to honor each member's gifts, yet we confer honor with rank and divide classes one from another. You call us to freedom and rest, yet we toil at endless tasks and impose such labor on others. You call us to love and serve you, yet we serve gods of profit and production; they swallow us alive. Redeem us, O Lord. Transform and renew us, that we might discern your will - what is good and acceptable for all. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP August 24, 2008 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Gracious God, we confess that we are those disciples, who expect people in need to defend for themselves and, who are afraid to take responsibility for themselves. We forget the blessings we have received at other's hands and resist the common life to which you call us. O God, forgive us for hearing only what we want to hear, for underestimating your claim upon us and your power to change us, for pursuing goals that serve no greater good. Teach us to follow and obey you, that we may receive your gifts and share them gladly, and so be satisfied with the life you intend for us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP August 03, 2008 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

L: The eyes of all look to God.

R: GOD PROVIDES FOR ALL IN NEED.

L: The way of the Holy One is justice and kindness.

R: GOD IS NEAR TO ALL WHO CALL AND WATCHES OVER ALL WHO LOVE GOD.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in a Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God's new heaven and new earth, praying, ‘Come, Lord Jesus!'”

- from A Brief Statement of Faith , (10.4)

Assurance of Pardon:

L: Take courage! God's Spirit empowers us to move from the ways of death to the ways of new life.

C: IN JESUS CHRIST, WE ARE FORGIVEN AND HOPE IS RENEWED.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful Lord, you know us better than we know ourselves, but we have not believed this. You care about us even when we do not love ourselves, but it has been hard for us to understand that this is true. We see so dimly and hear your Word so faintly that we doubt Your truth. We are afraid to believe, hope, and endure when there is suffering all around us. It is hard for us to love others. Please Lord, forgive our shortcomings, and show us how we can be more like Jesus. In silence we bring our prayers before You…

Gracious God, we know Christ died to free us from sin, and to free us for obedience. But we have failed to live in that knowledge. In many ways, Lord, we have denied you. To those who seek your help, you grant strength and salvation: yet we strive to do for ourselves. To those who lift their hearts, you bend low: yet we forget and fail to call on you. To those who died in faith, you bestow new life; yet we cling to what is safe and continue to sin. Lord, forgive our lack of gratitude, our neglect of your good gifts, our selfish living. Bind us to you that we might live for you. Through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

Merciful God, you have shown us the path love takes- submitting to the needs of others, open to everyone, willing to suffer and endure. We confess that we desire a different path- one where our interests are protected, our comfort is preserved, and we decide who merits our attention. Such love does not resemble yours. Great Physician, we who kneel before you are unwell. We are afflicted with twin illnesses - pride, which insists we have no need of you, and shame, which makes us afraid to approach you, loath to ask for help. If only you would touch us, Lord, we would be made well. Almighty and All merciful God, we confess that we often forget our responsibility as Your creatures, honoured to be invited to share Your work of sharing Your Eternal Love to a world that seems bent on destroying itself. We fail; to reflect the light of the One Whom we call the Light of the world.

Forgive us as we ask in the name of Jesus, the Savior of the world. Enable us to repent of our folly of listening to the siren voices of the world when we need to speak the Truth in a spirit of Your great Love.

Grant us assurance of Your Grace and Peace. Amen

We knowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Father of lights, Parent of all: you created the heavens and the earth, making everything good - even glorious. Jesus Christ, Light of the world, our Savior: you have made us your brothers and sisters and commissioned us to bear your name out into the world. Holy Spirit, our Comforter and Guide: you enlighten us with wisdom to know what is right and humility to make this confession: that we have been poor stewards of the earth, clumsy and spiritless disciples, unjust in our dealings with others, divided in our witness and devotion to you. Forgive us, triune God. By your grace and love and fellowship make of us new creations who are good and pleasing in your sight. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP May 18, 2008 Trinity Sunday

Confirmation Sunday

Pentecost Sunday, May 11, 2008

Our Confirmation Class will be confirmed today. It's a busy day, with Mother's Day and Pentecost being celebrated on the same Sunday. However, we normally confirm on Pentecost Sunday, since, biblically, on that Day 3,000 people were added to the Church. Please join us for the time of recognizing our young people and their journey of faith into church membership.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy Spirit, how we need you! Our vision is dim, our dreams too small. Come, Holy Spirit: Inspire and direct us. Our hearts are cold. Our faith is feeble. Come, Holy Spirit: kindle fire within us. Our body is broken, our unity breached. Come Holy Spirit: Heal and preserve us. Fill this place with songs of praise. Fuel our lives with power and grace. Renew this world, we pray, that it might glow with the light of your love and show forth your salvation. Through the Ascended Christ. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP May 11, 2008 Day of Pentecost

L: Holy Spirit, Creator, from the beginning your breath created all life.

R: COME, HOLY SPIRIT.

L: Holy Spirit, Counselor, from days of old, your inspiration has given faith from the Word.

R: COME, HOLY SPIRIT.

God of grace and God of glory, you have clothed us with power from on high. Christ, who is risen and ascended, has opened our minds to understand you and our hearts to know the hope to which you call us. Still we feel helpless in the face of sin, paralyzed by evil's sway in the world, unsure of your power to redeem what seems lost. Convict us of our heritage, and renew us, O God, in your wisdom, mercy, and power. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being, whose face is hidden from us by our sins, and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts: Cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires, that with reverent and humble hearts we may draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and strength; through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God our light, our Savior, our hope: we humble ourselves before you, having refused many of your gifts. You invite us to taste that you are good; we cultivate tastes for lesser things. You show us yourself, that we might believe; we close our ears and eyes to you. You offer us refuge and salvation; we resort to violence as we seek our own security. You call us to be living stones, built into a spiritual house; we disobey your Word, and stumble upon the foundation you provide. Forgive us, God of mercy. Let your face shine upon us again, that we may grow into salvation, and serve you with faithfulness and hope. Through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP April 20, 2008 5th Sunday of Easter

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (UNISON)

The Good Shepherd calls to us. We know our shepherd's voice, but we fail to heed it. Merciful God, to walk paths of righteousness and enjoy your life abundant, we must follow you in trust and obedience. Though you beckon us, we go our own way. Though you defend us, we are filled with fear. You spread a table before us. Our cup overflows. We judge those with whom we are seated. We worry there will not be enough. In your mercy, forgive us, Lord. Take us by the hand, and guide us in your ways. Help us to rest in your company, and there learn to be grateful and generous. Through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Risen Lord, how often you come to us, and we do not recognize you. In friends and strangers, who seek and offer kindness; in words that make sense of our lives and the world around us; in living, enduring promises that we have all but forgotten, you come, O God, but our hearts are slow to see and honor you. Forgive us, we pray. Do not leave us, but stay with us, and awaken us to your presence. Kindle within us deep and genuine love for you, and for the brothers and sisters you give to us. PRAYER OF CONFESSION (UNISON)

Wondrous God, you have broken the power of sin and death, and by your great mercy, you have given us new birth into a living hope. This we proclaim. This we want to believe. But seeds of doubt grow quickly in our hearts. Fear chokes off confidence and prevents us from receiving your Spirit. We multiply our sorrows by worshiping what we see and hear more than you, our delight and salvation. O God, in your great mercy, grant us the peace that passes understanding. Forgive us, and draw us close to you, that we may breathe deeply of your presence and find in you the fullness of joy. Through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP March 30, 2008 2 nd Sunday of Easter

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord, you are our strength and our might; you have become our salvation. Alleluia! We praise you, living God. We who were dead have been raised with Christ, and we seek the things that are above, where Christ is. We do so imperfectly, Lord - bearing wounds of our own, hindered by doubt and fear, unsure where to look for you, still tempted to sin. The prophets testify that everyone who believes in you receives forgiveness of sins through your name. This day we rejoice in the pardon and hope you give to us. Dry our tears, O God. Speak to us a word that reveals your presence. Open to us the gates of righteousness that we may enter through them, giving thanks and praise to you. Through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP March 23, 2008 Easter/Resurrection of the Lord

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of costly love, it was not enough for you to take on human flesh and form, to live with us. It was not enough for you to live humbly, without power, and share rich blessings with those on the margins. To conquer our sin, you accepted its penalty. To offer us life, you suffered death. Forgive us, God, when we forget the cost of your love. Forgive us, God, when we fail to stand with you in your service. Give us a new heart and a right spirit, that we might live for you, to your glory. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

PROCLAMATION OF THE ENTRANCE INTO JERSALEM

Matthew 21:1-11

Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem

1 When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples,
2 saying to them, ‘Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me.
3 If anyone says anything to you, just say this, “The Lord needs them.” And he will send them immediately. * '
4 This took place to fulfil what had been spoken through the prophet, saying,
5 ‘Tell the daughter of Zion, Look, your king is coming to you,    humble, and mounted on a donkey,      and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them;
7 they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them.
8 A very large crowd * spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9 The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,‘Hosanna to the Son of David!  Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!'
10 When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, ‘Who is this?'
11 The crowds were saying, ‘This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.'

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our cry! If you should mark iniquities, who could stand? Our sins have crippled us, bound us, buried us – they cut us off from you, who is life itself. But there is forgiveness with you. With you is great power to redeem. Breathe into us your breath, O god. Breathe into us your Spirit. Open our graves and call us to you that we may live in full knowledge of your power and steadfast love. Through Christ our Savior, Amen

Amen

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, our Comforter and Guide, we confess what comes between us and you. We have been blind to the faults in ourselves that we so readily detect in others: prizing appearance and credentials, and failing to see the heart; rushing headlong into temptation, without thought for what is right; keeping secret what would shame us, if it were known; denying truths voiced by people we disdain. God of light, expose to us our sin, that we may confess it and turn from it, and so live in the light of your forgiveness and love. Through Christ our Savior, Amen

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We knowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer of Confession February 3, 2008 Transfiguration of the Lord

Gracious God, it is good to be here with you – in the comfort of this sanctuary, among friends, assured of your grace and love for us. How tempted we are to abide in what feels safe and familiar! How hesitant we are to venture forth into the unknown. As Christ turned his eyes from the mountain top to the valley, turn our eyes toward places we shudder to go – places where people struggle with brokenness and pain, dark places where we might bear your love and light. Transform us, so we might represent your kingdom well. Until the new day dawns and morning star rises in our hearts, sustain us by your presence and your power. Through the Transfigured Christ. Amen.

CONFESSION OF FAITH

(The Apostles' Creed, Ecumenical Translation, page 14 in the Hymnal)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

Amen.

Prayer of Confession January 27, 2008 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gracious Lord, your face, turned toward us, is our light and our salvation. Do not hide your face from us! Do not turn away from us in anger! We confess how often we have turned away from you – distracted by chores and obligations, embroiled in quarrels and contests, reluctant to follow your lead and live lives marked by obedience and sacrifice. God arouse us to repentance. Help us to heed our hearts, for they tell us to seek your face. Through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

Prayer of Confession January 13, 2008 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gracious God, we confess that we are uncertain. So that many things that seemed sure and good have led us astray and exhausted us. So much of what we have tried to do has disappointed those we love, failed to help our neighbors in need, and emptied us of conviction and hope. We do not know what we are looking for. Deliver us, O God, from all that is desolate and vain. Set our feet upon solid rock. Open our ears to hear you. Fill our hearts with trust and our mouths with praise for the saving help and steadfast love you show to us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen .

Prayer of Confession January 13, 2008 Baptism of the Lord Sunday

God of majesty and power: even as your voice shakes the wilderness and strips the forest bare, so it shakes us, and strips us of pretensions and illusions. In your presence we know without doubt how we have wandered from your way, dishonored your name, and failed to fulfill our calling. Have mercy on us, Lord. Your word brings order to chaos, life to death. Speak to us again your promise of newness. Call to us again in righteousness. Take us by the hand and keep us, so we may live to please and praise you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen .

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive those who debt against us; lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen

CONFESSION OF FAITH
(Nicene Creed page 15 in the Hymnal)

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We knowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer of Confession January 6, 2008 Epiphany of the Lord

God of light, in whom no darkness can abide: We come to you in joy… but also trembling, for we know what darkness abides in us. We cannot conceal from you our cowardice, our shallowness, the resentments we harbour against others. We confess to you our capacity to deceive, our wilfulness, our avoidance of others' pain and suffering. O Wonderful Counsellor, illuminate what bears revealing. Cast our sin, as light casts out darkness. Live in us, that we might live for you . Through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
