Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church Dear Friends in Christ, The theme of our Stewardship this year is Moments. There is a country song titled "Moments" by Emerson Drive.. It tells a story of two men who have had different "moments". One man is homeless, the other is planning on ending it all. In the song, the men look back on what their lives had been like. They had both had moments of "excellence". Another key piece of what they found out was that they had both done what they thought they couldn't do. They, like us faced challenges, and they got through it, as will we. In the past year we have seen some major changes in our church and church family. We have had our moments and I am sure that we will have them ahead of us as well. The thing that is important though is that we will get through it. We need to remember that our mission basically stays the same, and that mission is to carry God's message of love, faith, compassion & service to those around us. When we make it possible to bring joy and guidance to children, through our summer and vacation camps, we are doing as Jesus did when he said to bring the children to him. When we have our youth groups here we are giving some children the only church experience they get. We are spreading the word. When we open the doors of our church to a group that helps those with addiction are we not doing a Jesus did, when he said he "did not come to save the righteous"? When we offer our dinners to the public, we are taking time just as Jesus did to share fellowship with his contemporaries. The point is, our mission is to live life individually and as a group carrying the message as Jesus did. That is not to say that this is being done without problems. I prefer to look at the problems we face as challenges. We continue to be faced with financial challenges. But those are something that I believe that we can overcome. God gives us the means through faith to rise above all these challenges that we are faced with. Stewardship is about giving. Not just of money, but also of time and talent. It is about preparing ourselves and our church to have moments. Moments of glory, moments of giving, moments of grace. Each person is able to contribute to the solution. We all need to work together to find a solution to this problem. We have a great opportunity to help on Consecration Sunday, which will be held on November 18th. Your gifts that are offered are all very important. Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for us, isn't it time we make a small sacrifice to save our Lord's House. Please take a moment and prayerfully consider what your part can be and join me on Consecration Sunday as we lift our gifts to the Lord and celebrate over a delicious luncheon after the service. Faithfully, Ray Hubert |
