A special thanks to everyone who supplied us with special music during the Lenten, Maundy Thursday, and Easter Services. To all who have been working the Third Sunday Lunches for us. To all who labored unselfishly for the St. Patrick's Dinner and Program, and for other programs, and activities of the church. Everyone who has contributed time, and talent for Bacon Memorial, is greatly appreciated. |
A big thanks to Ed Clark. We were in need of a wood cross to be used on Palm Sunday, as well as Maundy Thursday. Ed came across with a cross, fitted with a wreath-like crown. The cross resembles what we think the original cross of Jesus may have looked like. Ed was able to create a base for the cross, so we can stand it in the front corner of the sanctuary through the Easter season. Thus, reminding us of our salvation through the cross. THANKS, ED! We appreciate your talent. |

On February 9th a group of members spent a long day working on the heating system for the church. I would like to thank the following for their help and time: Mike Ishman Jr., Ron Clements, Bill Springer, Jerry Wilson, Michael, Dave and Irene Barry, Roland Jamieson and Charles Bennett. A special thank you to Reverend Peck who spent the day praying that we knew what we were doing and to my wife Vicki for helping with breakfast. Sincerely, Kevin deserves our thanks also. He spent most of that long day with a torch in his hand sweating fittings, mostly in awkward places that were hard to reach, let alone work in. Thanks to all who helped, Bill Springer |

Making a DifferenceWe all need to be active in the life of our church. Have you recently invited a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker to our House of Worship? When was the last time you looked through our church directory and telephoned those people who have not attended worship in the past few weeks? Do you call and/or visit those members who have fallen upon hard times to offer a listening ear or helping hand? How often do you introduce yourself to visitors at Bacon to help familiarize them with our church, facilities, and different programs and activities, as well as to introduce them to other Bacon members? Each and every member at Bacon truly can make a difference. |
Join a Committee Attention Church Members: Your help is urgently needed. Do you have some fresh new ideas that you would like to share? Then join one of our many committees and share those ideas. Sign up sheets for the different committees of our church are posted on the bulletin boards outside the office. If you have any other questions please contact the church office. |

Note from Betty Nickerson: What a Wonderful Party!!! I can’t thank everyone enough for the wonderful celebration that was prepared in my honor. First, I would like to say thank you for the beautiful wrist corsage and to Session and Church members for honoring the work I have done for the church with a $50 Visa gift card. I would also like to thank all of the people who prepared and served the delicious food. It was like a banquet. I would also like to say a special thank you to Carol Ortt for the beautiful cake she made, to Judy and Ed Reese for the beautiful cross and Fran Clements for making me the special Quiche with no cheese. It was great to have my daughter, son and son-in-law and three of my very dear friends there to celebrate this special day with me. I love this church and all of my church family. This day meant so much to me and I would like to just say thank you, thank you, and thank you to everyone. |
Congregational Highlights Guest Ministers Rev. Jon Rieley-Goddard delivered our sermon entitled “This and More” on Sunday, October 7th Rev. Ms. Gifford is the first Authorized Lay Preacher (ALP) in the Presbytery of WNY. She earned her Master of Theology degree from Christ the King Seminary in 2006 and her Master of Church Music degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1973. She lives in Eggertsville, NY with her husband, Alvin J. Schuster. Ms. Gifford is an ordained elder at University Presbyterian Church, Buffalo, NY. Also on October 21st we celebrated with a special Third Sunday Luncheon honoring Betty Nickerson on her retirement as our Financial Secretary. We would like to extend a sincere thank you for her many years of service in an often thankless but vital role in our church. |

Congregational Highlights LIFE AT BACON We have begun a new phase of life at Bacon Memorial Church. For the next several weeks we will have guest ministers and lay people leading us in worship. A committee is working on securing an interim minister who can be with us for 1 to 2 years, if needed. A Search Committee will be interviewing ministers for a permanent pastor during this time and hopefully by 18 months from now we will be installing our new permanent pastor. Please continue to be faithful in attendance at worship, in service to the Lord and in financial support to our church during this time. Our church will continue to operate as before. Encourage your friends and other members that you haven’t seen for a while to attend or come back. We will need everyone’s help to make the appropriate decisions needed for the future of Bacon Memorial Church. Please continue to pray for our entire congregation and the tasks ahead. Carol Costantino, Worship Chair

PAPER TO DOLLARS From now until October 28th is Paper Retriever month here at Bacon. Please bring all your recyclable paper in during this period. We are paid on a sliding scale – the more we recycle the more we get per ton. So if we all clean out whatever we have at the same time (now) we can earn considerably more than if we spread it out over the whole year. Dave Barry has already secured a sizable donation form his employer, so if we all pitch in the benefit could be sizeable. |
Christmas is Coming..... and we have some ecorations
to repair or replace for the church to look its absolute

the same tool how lucky for you? A pair of work gloves
may be helpful so you don't break a fingernail. I have

day for a couple of hours work. Any time you can help

April 29, 2007 4th Sunday of EasterVirginia Tech: A Prayer of Remembrance and Hope God of Mercy and Might, We as a nation have been shocked, sickened, saddened, and angered this past week by the shootings in Blacksburg on the campus of Virginia Tech. Words fail us. Our minds and hearts continue to reel. We are only beginning to grasp the horror of it all and we make no claim today at understanding this tragedy. But today, we gather together to mourn the loss of so many lives, so many young lives; to grieve with all those who have lost family, friend, neighbor, and colleague; to be one with those whose hearts are bursting with pain; and to pray for those who are inconsolable, for those bearing loss beyond bearing. Be with them and be with us. We pray together that you would make your presence felt; that in some small measure those most hurting would know your presence; that their burdens of loss and pain might be experienced as shared with you; and that you would bring comforters, those who will bear, cry and sit with those who are hurting. May we your church be to them a faithful presence. We remember together the many lives so tragically taken, as well as those lives given that others could live. We remember also their families and friends left behind. Grant that they may somehow experience your grieving presence, and that the process of healing may begin. In our remembering, we have been encouraged by the grace and strength shown by the Virginia Tech community in the aftermath of the tragedy. Continue to strengthen them and help them to continue to find hope and strength in one another. We have gathered together, to pray together, to remember together, and to call upon your name together as we cling to the hope of your promises that sorrow, evil, tragedy, and death do not have the last word and that nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. In life and in death, now and always, we place their lives and ours into your loving hands. Amen. This prayer is offered to the Synod of the Northeast, and to the whole of the PC(USA), by the Rev. David Choi, Pastor, Praise Presbyterian Church, Eastern Korean Presbytery. |

Rev. Grove's Retirement There is sweet and bitter news about our dedicated Pastor's retirement. We are happy to see him be able to partake in active retirement after thirty-three years of distinguished ministry in the United Presbyterian Church. One third of his active and creative ministry has been taking place in our church. Rev. Grove was required to notify the Presbytery of Western New York and the Presbyterian Pension Board six months prior to his retirement in order to have sufficient time to complete the necessary legal work for his retirement. In addition, Presbytery of Western New York strongly encourages pastors who have had a long and productive ministry, such as the ministry of Rev. grove in our church, to inform their session and congregation of his/her retirement. This enables the congregation to have sufficient adjustment period and to allow Presbytery to assist the Session and congregation during this transition period. Rev. grove informed the session of his retirement on January 28, 2007, at the Session meeting and the congregation accepted his retirement plans at last Sunday's Congregational meeting. A member from the committee on ministry will be meeting with our Session in February to assist their future tasks. In the past, we have always worked together to complete necessary church tasks in a Christian, biblical and Presbyterian manner. We can be proud we acted in a similar manner with Rev. Grove's retirement. Rev. Grove still has many demanding church tasks prior to his August retirement. Let us continue to work together with him, as we have done in the past, to ensure Christian love, support and encouragement is extended to all. |
