May 2008 Mission Work Each month we will be sharing some of the mission work accomplished by Bacon Memorial during the previous month and our future plans. During April the Mission Committee focused on greater support for the Food Collection for the Salvation Army. By April 20th the members of Bacon Memorial filled the cupboard and huge box generously. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The Mission Committee will continue with the Food Donations. A box will be in the Narthex. The food will be distributed to various groups in our community. During May members are asked to support the Tools and Blankets Programs of Church World Services. The Blanket Program helps in areas affected by disasters. Every five dollars donated will purchase a blanket. The Tools Program provides emergency supplies such as boats, seeds, hoes, wells, etc. Please help with your donations on May 18, 2008. |

February 2008 Mission Work - Our Youth Group visited Heritage Manor for Cake Decorating Night. They also started working on fundraisers to raise the money needed to purchase a DVD player and some black and white movies for our friends at Heritage Manor. - We continue to open our doors to three Girl Scout troops and an AA group weekly. - During our Basket Auction we provided space for a Boys Travel Baseball team to hold a Bake Sale, helping them to raise funds needed for uniforms and insurance. - As a mission project, Presbyterian Women purchased new cushions for the two mother and child chairs in the Solely Lounge. They also continued the Fellowship of the Least Coin, an ongoing project throughout the year. The Fellowship is described in the Presbyterian Women article in this Visitor. - We also began presenting the Congregation with information on this year's One Great Hour of Sharing. This is an annual Presbyterian Church-wide special offering that helps fund the Presbyterian Hunger Program, Self-Development of People and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Bacon will be contributing to this offering as it has for many years. |
January 2008 Mission Work Over 20 individuals from our Youth Group went to Heritage Manor for Pizza Night. Together we worked with the seniors in fixing and topping pizzas. Then in true Presbyterian fashion we fellowshipped together as we ate. It's great to see how comfortable our youth have become with the seniors chitchatting, doing magic tricks and making new friends, a blessing for both the seniors and our youth. Special thanks to Chef Chris MacKenzie and to Ventry's Pizza for help with supplies. Presbyterian Women collected for the 2¢ a Meal for food pantries and hunger programs in the United States and then worldwide. Please continue to save pennies, 2¢ a Meal, and bring them to church on the first Sunday of each month. Continued our winter food drive collection of non-perishable food to be donated to local food pantries. Opened our church and facilities for three Girl Scout Troops and an AA Group weekly, allowing over 100 individuals to benefit from the Christian Principles practiced and taught by each of these fine organizations. |
